POLICE were called to Princes Street in Hawick yesterday morning after workmen found the remains.
A police spokesman said: "Police were called around 11.10am on Thursday, 5 December following a report that skeletal remains had been found by workmen excavating a site on Princes St, Hawick.
"The area is that of a former graveyard, the local parish is aware and local council has been informed.
"Advice and assistance has been given with no further police action."
