LOOKING for a new activity to enjoy in the New Year?
Wanting to meet new people or learn something different in 2020?
Then why not consider a volunteering role at Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott.
The Abbotsford Trust is looking for enthusiastic volunteers of all ages to get involved in the preservation of Scott’s legacy and welcoming visitors to his ‘conundrum castle’, gardens and woodlands.
A Volunteer Open Day is being held at Abbotsford on Saturday, January 18, starting at 10am, form people to learn more about the different roles and to sign up if they are interested.
Annabel Crawford, Abbotsford’s Volunteer Coordinator, told us: “Sir Walter Scott’s Abbotsford is one of the most famous literary houses in the world.
"Looking after this five-star tourist attraction is a major challenge for a small charity and volunteers are absolutely crucial to Abbotsford’s success.
“This year we have a wide range of roles to fill, from selling tickets and helping in the shop, to welcoming visitors to the historic house, driving the minibus and helping with our family events.
“No previous experience is necessary and people can do as many hours as they like.
"Some of our volunteers do a couple of days a week, while others just do a couple of hours. It all helps us to preserve Scott’s legacy for future generations.”
In 2018 Abbotsford became the first historic house museum in Scotland to gain a prestigious national award for its volunteer programme when it received the Volunteer Friendly Award, a national
scheme for organisations working with volunteers.
Anyone interested in volunteering can call 01896 752043 or email volunteering@scottsabbotsford.co.uk for more information and to register their interest.
Alternatively, they can attend Abbotsford at 10am on the Saturday 18th January.
