BORDERS MSP Rachael Hamilton hosted a Great Christmas Bake Off in the Scottish Parliament to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Mrs Hamilton was joined by Elaine Munro of Selkirk, creator of the Cancer Research tartan, for the fundraising afternoon in the run up to Christmas.

Mrs Munro judged the various entries of the Bake Off, with fellow Cancer Research UK Selkirk Committee member Marjory Inglis.

The winner of the competition was Lynn Crozier, for a second year in a row.

She made a traditional Christmas cake with decorative snowmen and icing. Entries included Christmas cookies and Santa Claus cupcakes.

For the tipple challenge, Highlands and Islands MSP Edward Mountain won with his plum gin.

Mrs Munro was impressed with all the entries and thanked the MSPs and parliamentary staff for their contributions to Cancer Research UK.

Rachael Hamilton said: "The Bake Off was a success and as its now in its fourth year, the competition has tough. I want to congratulate the winners for their fantastic entries.

“Raising money for cancer research and spreading a bit of festive cheer was the aim of the game.

“Sadly no one is immune from the impact of cancer, where it be themselves, a member of their family or a friend who is diagnosed.

“Elaine brought in their wonderful Lochcarron scarves as prizes, which was very generous of her indeed.

“I must thank them for their year-round hard work in ensuring that one day we can find a cure for cancer."
