INNERLEITHEN is about to have a visit from drag royalty as two of the top three contestants from the first series of Rupaul's Drag Race UK take to the Memorial Hall this weekend.

The popular tv competition aired on BBC Three in October 2019 and has been renewed for a second series.

The show follows from the successful American version which has spanned across 12 seasons with additional spin-off competitions.

The winner of the first series, The Vivienne and third place runner-up, Baga Chipz will both perform their individual styles of Drag to the audience on Saturday, January 11.

Brought to the Borders by On the Brinck Promotions and Hemelvaart Bier Café, the two queens will be joined by supporting performers including the winner of Drag Idol 2019, Layla Sphynx, and live music from UK chart act, Khalysis.

Clive Brinck, of On The Brinck Promotions, was excited to host the Drag Race UK stars for some exclusive Scottish Borders shows.

He said: “I loved the show and I was very excited at the prospect of bringing the queens to the Borders.

"There is nothing like this outside of major cities, so we are working hard to change this.”

Fans of Drag and Drag Race will be also have the chance to see second place runner-up Divina De Campo perform at Hemelvaart and the Memorial Hall on February 21 and 29.

All the shows featuring the Drag Race UK finalists will be hosted by Hemelvaart's regular Drag Queen host, Lourde Godd, originally from Blackpool, but the performer has built up a fantastic reputation in the Borders.

Clive added: "Lourde is brilliant and is an ideal host of our On The Brinck events, so we are thrilled to be working with her on these shows."

On Saturday, a full bar will be open and food will be available from the award-winning Scream For Pizza from Tyneside.

Doors open at 7pm on Saturday, January 11 and tickets are on sale at www.onthebrinck.co.uk.

Tickets are £15 standing and £20 for balcony seating. All meet and greet tickets for The Vivienne and Baga Chipz are sold out.

There are still ‘Meet and Greet’ tickets available for Divina De Campo’s Memorial Hall performance on February 29 via the same website.

All shows are open to over 14s, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
