A 28-year-old man who drove away his father's van without permission, crashed it and was over the legal alcohol limit has been banned from driving for three years at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Neil Brown pleaded guilty to the offences which happened on May 11 after he took the keys for the van from Tweedholm Avenue in Walkerburn.
After crashing through a stone wall on the A72 he was found to have an alcohol reading of 53 microgrammes - the legal limit being 22.
He also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and making threats to police officers in Walkerburn on April 5, as well as possession of a knuckle duster in Overhaugh Street, Galashiels, on October 16.
Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said Brown from Peebles had "significant mental health problems".
Brown was also given a 12 months Community Pay Back order with supervision.
