ONE of the most compelling and original performers in Scotland right now, is heading down the A7 to bring her heart-felt folk-pop to the String Jam Club.

Amy Duncan was discovered on MySpace by US label Plain Recordings 15 years ago.

She's gone on to release six stunning albums to wide critical acclaim.

Based in Edinburgh, Amy writes emotive songs, combining intimate vocals, guitar, electric upright bass, synths, and piano.

She has been credited with creating a unique, introspective, contemplative, acoustic sound with touches of jazz and of classical minimalism.

String Jam promoter Allie Fox said: "We can expect skilful and tasteful use of the instruments and vocal loops to provide multi-layered textured arrangements for her affecting lyrics and haunting songs."

Amy’s debut album Pilgrimage was released on Plain Recordings in 2006 after they discovered her home recordings online.

She self-released a further two albums, achieving TV placements on Lip Service on BBC Three and the Netflix version of Charmed.

Creative Scotland funding made it possible for Amy to work with producer Calum Malcolm from The Blue Nile, leading to Amy's fourth album Cycles of Life being released on Linn Records in 2013.

As a result Amy was chosen by Showcase Scotland as one of two Scottish acts to perform at the Eastern Canadian Music Alliance in 2014 and was part of the Made In Scotland Showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 and 2014.

She went on to record a further two albums with Calum, including 'Undercurrents' in 2016 which was released to great praise and was featured in Folk Radio UK’s Top Ten Albums of the year.

The album triggered major positive reviews in the mainstream media as well as receiving widespread airplay.

Amy is currently working with an animator on a series of music videos inspired by her abstract photography, to be released gradually throughout the year, culminating in an album release in summer 2020. Allie added: "We are greatly looking forward to Amy’s first headline appearance at the String Jam Club.

"Her vocals have been described as heavenly and her live performances brim with instrumental virtuosity and originality."

Amy Duncan will perform at the String Jam Club in Selkirk's County Hotel on Saturday, February 8.

Tickets, priced at £12, are available from Eventbrite (booking fees apply) by phone on 07930 872033, or in person from the County Hotel.
