A TEENAGER who issued threats in telephone calls to his former partner has been ordered to carry out 40 hours unpaid work at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Eighteen year old Jonathan Brereton was on bail at the time banning him from contacting the woman when he committed the offence at a house in Roxburgh Street, Kelso, on November 10.

He pleaded guilty to charges of making comments of a threatening nature and a breach of bail.

Fiona Hamilton, prosecuting, said Brereton had been in a two-year relationship with the woman which had ended.

She explained: "She was in her home address with her new partner when a withheld number came up and she put it on loudspeaker.

"The accused was speaking and he was saying things like he would bring people round to come and get him."

The fiscal said that was referring to the new partner.

She added there were further calls with laughing in the background.

Brereton's lawyer claimed his client had also been threatened.

Sheriff Peter Anderson told Brereton he had been foolish, rude and bullying.

He said: "It is time to grow up. "Do it again and you will be in serious difficulties."

A Community Pay Back Order was imposed with Brereton, how of Oliver Place, Hawick, instructed to carry out 40 hours unpaid work over the next four months.
