A DONATION made to a local charity by the recently disbanded south-east Scotland branch of the Royal Army Medical Corps Association (RAMC) will go towards veterans' services in Hawick.

The RAMC south-east Scotland branch closed after facing difficulties in recruiting new members.

In its recent closure, the RAMC chose to donate £500 to the FirstLight Trust, who provide a range of support to armed forces and blue-light services veterans.

Dorinda Wolfe Murray, founder of FirstLight Trust said: “We are delighted to have received this donation, which will be used to support armed forces and blue light veterans in the Borders who may be in need of help to adjust to civilian life.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Royal Army Medical Corps while also being disappointed for them that they have had to close their South East Scotland Branch.

"Its members can rest assured this donation will go a long way to helping veterans where it matters, in their communities.”

The FirstLight Trust has a hub based in Hawick where it runs various services for veterans including CV workshops, alcohol and drug education and mental health support.

Ms Wolfe Murray added: “Many of those who work for FirstLight Trust are veterans so know what it’s like trying to adjust to civilian life.

"Call us or pop in to our café/hub in Hawick High Street and let’s see how we can help.”

The FirstLight Trust can be contacted at hawick@firstlighttrust.co.uk or can be called on 01450 218 647.
