POLICE were called out to help a driver who had broken down on the M61–– and came across a classic 1973 MGB GT.

The car had broken down on the motorway near junction six and officers from Greater Manchester Police's Bolton division were sent out.

Officers arrived to find the car early in the afternoon on Sunday.

Similar models of the car are on sale for tens of thousands of pounds.

GMP Traffic posted that the 'lovely car' was suffering from a faulty fuel pump and that the vehicle was aided by breakdown assistance.

The sleek car has two doors, the model year printed in large numbers on its side and a smart grey colour.

The vehicle appears to be one that is also up for sale online.

The listing reveals that it is fitted with a 1.9 engine and a fast road cam, a kenlowe fan aids cooling and an electric fuel pump.

Rear suspension has parabolic leaf springs, a complete V8 disc brake system at the front and drum brakes at the rear.

The transmission is the standard 4 speed with overdrive on 3rd and 4th.
