RESIDENTS in Newcastleton are set to receive extra support from kind donations made to the village after the devastation caused by Storm Dennis.

In the wake of Storm Dennis, and the preceding Storm Ciara, Newcastleton experienced its worst flooding in recent times on Saturday, February 15.

Around 80 homes in Newcastleton were flooded over the weekend.

A Go Fund Me page was created on Sunday to help the victims of the storm, especially those whose homes had been damaged.

The crowdfunding page was set-up by Jamie Thomson who said: "The page was set up to show some support for the people affected. Many haven't been able to secure home contents insurance so hopefully it can help in some way.

"River levels have returned to normal but the trail of destruction left behind is unbelievable. Homes conpletely ruined, roads and fences washed away. Heartbreaking.

"The page was initially set up in the hope of maybe treating those affected to nice lunch or some flowers something like that but the donation have exceeded what we expected.

"Hopefully we can speak to the individuals once we have a total and see what they desperately need."

The Borders was issued 17 flood warnings prior to the storm.

The increased water levels of the River Liddel was impacted by the heavy rainfall from both Storm Ciara and Dennis, and the melting snow from the hills.

Clean-up teams from Scottish Borders Council were on the ground in the village on Sunday and Scottish Borders Housing Association has also been visiting their properties, offering support and advice on temporary accommodation.

At the time of publication, the Go Fund Me page has raised £3,337, exceeding its £2,500 target.

Jamie added: "The whole village would like to thank all that have supported donated and helped through this horrific time, but if anyone can pull through it's the Copshaw Holmers."
