A PRIORWOOD Court resident has celebrated a special birthday as she turned 105 this week.

Georgina Patterson celebrated her birthday with friends and family at the Melrose retirement home with music, party food and special cake to mark the occasion.

Mrs Patterson will be known by many in the community as the founder of the Tweedbank Art Club, which she created alongside her daughter Nancy, after she retired.

Before retiring however, Mrs Patterson worked in Buckingham Palace in the 1960s, working first as a maid and housekeeper, before being promoted to a dedicated position caring for Princess Alice, Prince Philip's mother.

After Princess Alice's passing in 1969, Mrs Patterson was thanked by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, and was offered a full-time position as one of the Queen's maids.

Mrs Patterson had also worked all around the world, taking up seasonal positions in hotels. She even spent seven years working for the Biaritz Hotel in Jersey
