A PROJECT manager who admitted driving while almost four times the legal alcohol limit has been fined £600 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Fifty four year old Leslie Bell of Lady Moss, Tweedbank, was also banned from the road for 12 months for the offence which happened on Wednesday, January 29.
The court heard that Bell had gone into the Premier store in Selkirk to buy a bottle of vodka and it was noted he was already smelling of alcohol.
He was followed on the A7 to Galashiels and to Tweedbank Industrial Estate where the police caught up with him.
Bell gave an alcohol reading of 87 microgrammes - the legal limit being 22 - and made no reply to being cautioned and charged.
He told the court he was "deeply ashamed" and "remorseful" of the incident.
Sheriff David Clapham said he would have banned him for 15 months and fined him £900 but reduced the sentence due to the guilty plea.
