MOTORISTS on the A72 are facing major disruption and lengthy diversions from Monday.

Daytime closures are set to take place on a stretch of the road around Neidpath Castle over nine weekdays.

And drivers will be diverted around Leadburn and Blyth Bridge on the A701 and A703 to reach either side.

The closures, which will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day, is to allow for the removal of overhanging trees.

A spokesman for Scottish Borders Council said: "The closure on the A72 near Neidpath is for essential works required to be carried out by a local estate to overhanging trees which are causing a potential danger to road users."

The road will be closed from next Monday (March 16) through to Friday (March 20).

And then again from Monday (March 23) to Thursday (March 26) between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Borders Buses is running an amended 91 and 93 service timetable during the works.
