THE beauty of mosaics is about to be revealed at a new exhibition in the Borders.

Between the Lines features some of the best contemporary mosaics by members of the British Association for Modern Mosaic (BAMM).

It opens at Old Gala House in Galashiels on Saturday, March 28.

With more than 50 pieces from artists throughout Scotland and the wider UK, Between the Lines reveals the ancient art of mosaic to be alive and thriving.

The work on display challenges pre-conceptions of art and craft.

It also explores notions of figuration and abstraction and employs traditional and contemporary methods.

The exhibiting artists range from internationally-recognised mosaic artists to those who are who are exhibiting for the first time - and most works in the exhibition are available to buy.

If the mosaic art you see inspires your imagination, you can also learn how to create your own mosaic at one of the creative workshops that are taking place alongside the exhibition.

There’s a drop-in Easter mosaic workshop for adults and children at Old Gala House on April 15.

Or why not book a place on one of the exciting workshops at Selkirk WASPS studios?

Workshops include making mosaics with slate or on mesh, mosaic pendants, creating nature-inspired 3D mosaics from recycled materials, or Roman designs (for children aged 8 to 12 years).

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between Live Borders and members of BAMM (Scotland).

Visitors can meet some of the participating artists at free Meet the Maker sessions each Friday (12-1pm) and Saturday (11am- 12pm) throughout the exhibition.

Joy Parker said: “I am delighted that Live Borders will be hosting a mosaic exhibition in Old Gala House.

"As a local artist with a WASPS studio in Selkirk, I started making mosaics about 20 years ago when few people were exploring mosaic as an art medium.

"Since joining the British Association for Modern Mosaic, I have met many more mosaic artists using a wide range of materials, methods and styles.

"It has been an ambition of mine to share some of this beautiful work with people in the Borders and beyond.”

The Between the Lines exhibition opens at Old Gala House on Saturday, March 28 and runs until May 30.

Entrance to the exhibition is free.
