ORGANISERS have cancelled a consultation drop-in event to help determine how a new Peebles High will look.

The community consultation event had been scheduled for Monday evening - from 4.30pm to 8pm - in the school assembly hall.

An open invite had been posted to all parents and the wider community.

But the outbreak of the coronavirus has led to the event being cancelled.

Catriona Bhatia from the organising committee said: "The event is being cancelled as a precaution due to the current national concerns regarding coronovirus.

"We apologise for the short notice but the health of the community is paramount and we wish to minimise any risk to the school or wider population."

In its place will be an online consultation on the Scottish Borders Council website.

Opinions on what works well within the school and the wider site, what doesn’t work well, and what should the site look like in 2030 will be posed.

Scottish Borders Council chief executive Tracey Logan is encouraging anyone with an interest to have their say.

She told us: “The local community’s input is vital as we start to look in more detail at what lies ahead for Peebles High School, its pupils, staff, parents and the wider community.

"I’d encourage as many people as possible with an interest in the future of the school to find out more information and, crucially, share their views.”
