The coronavirus pandemic is the "biggest challenge" ever faced by Scottish Borders Council, according to the authority's chief executive.

Tracey Logan issued a statement last night (March 20) giving an update on the council's preparations.

Guidance on school closures has now been issued, Ms Logan said.

The full statement reads: “Coronavirus continues to present us with the biggest challenge our organisation has ever faced.

“We have now issued advice about schools, which clearly sets out the arrangements for the early part of next week. Detailed planning is continuing for the longer term.

“We understand this a very worrying time for businesses. We are working hard to be able to release details on how businesses can access the funding and support which was announced by Scottish Government this week. We will provide updates as soon as we possibly can.

“We would urge all residents to continue to follow the government advice on limiting social contact, which is vitally important to help mitigate the spread of Coronavirus in our communities.

“I would like to thank Borders’ residents and our community partners for their support and cooperation during this difficult time.”
