BRAVE Borders schoolgirl Charly Bisset is recovering in hospital from pneumonia after being rushed to Edinburgh Sick Kids.

Last week we reported that Charly, of Peebles, was admitted to intensive care following fears she had coronavirus.

The tests came back negative, but the eight-year-old was found to have pneumonia and sepsis.

Now Charly's father Mark has revealed his daughter's condition is improving – and he paid tribute to her attitude.

“Her fighting spirit knows no bounds," said Mr Bisset, going on to note that Charly has even convinced the nursing staff to feature in her TikTok videos.

Mr Bisset told us: “She perked back up faster than she dropped. The sepsis is clearing up but she is still going to be on antibiotics to treat the pneumonia. It’s probably going to be around eight to nine weeks for her to fully recover.

“This is going to be the new way of life for Charly because of the damage to her lungs.”

Charly, a cancer survivor, was fighting for her life last year after contracting a fungal infection at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Now back in hospital, she has been decorating the ward door with rainbows, making slime – and, of course, keeping nurses amused with her online videos.

At the time of going to press Charly's family expected she would be allowed out of hospital in the near future.

But for Charly’s safety the family will remain in strict isolation. Despite assurances from the Scottish Government that they are high priority for grocery deliveries, the family say they cannot get any slots from the supermarket for three weeks.

Mr Bisset added: “Although the community has been great and so kind getting us needed items, it’s just putting both them and us at risk with lots of different people having to shop for us and we feel guilty asking.”
