STAFF at Asda in Galashiels have started using electric vehicles at work.

The vehicles are being used to help with the click and collect service.

Previously, delivery vans moved items from the store to the click and collect lockers across the car park.

But now the task is performed by the electric vehicles, freeing up the vans to carry out more home deliveries.

Asda director Emma Ford said: “We are always looking for ways to innovate in areas where customers care, while still providing an excellent customer experience.

“These vehicles allow us to do this by increasing capacity for click and collect customers and enabling us to understand how we can better utilise electric vehicles across our fleet.”

The fully road-legal electric vans will allow all UK stores with a click and collect service to increase their slot availability from 7,000 to 34,000 per week, according to Asda.
