AN INTERNATIONAL hockey player has made online fitness videos in a bid to keep Borders residents healthy during lockdown.

Janet Jack, who lectures at Borders College, stars in short videos posted on YouTube.

She said: "We all need some motivation at the moment and what better way than to keep ourselves fit."

Ms Jack, who teaches sport and exercise, currently plays masters hockey for Scotland, having previously represented the full women's side as well as Great Britain.

Her videos were devised alongside Borders College's curriculum learning manager Darren Burns.

Ms Jack said: “With gyms closed and limited time we can spend outside, we thought it would be a great idea to produce these videos and help improve the health of everyone in the community.”

The videos, filmed in Ms Jack's home, feature exercises including squat jumps, planks and hopping sequences.

“We’ve had some great feedback – from staff, students and the wider audience – and were delighted to be able to help," said Ms Jack, adding: "Thanks to everyone who got involved.”

Ms Jack is among Scotland’s most-capped hockey players, having represented her country 170 times.

She was a travelling reserve for Team GB at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and, in early 2019, helped lead Scotland’s Women’s Masters Over-55 team to a silver medal at the European Championships in Germany.
