NHS Borders has announced that two coronavirus patients have died since the last update a week ago.

In a statement issued at 1.02pm today (Tuesday, May 19), the health board declared that a total of 34 virus patients have died in the region's hospitals.

The figure represents a rise of two since the previous report, released on May 12.

An NHS Borders spokesperson said 21 virus patients are being treated in hospital, with a further 14 suspected cases awaiting results.

Fewer than five patients are in the intensive care unit at the Borders General Hospital, said the spokesperson.

A total of 63 recoveries have been made among hospital patients so far, the spokesperson added.
