GALASHIELS residents rushed to buy sex toys during the coronavirus lockdown, according to research.

The Mirror has published data on customer spending habits across the UK, based on findings by money-saving site Quidco.

Galashiels is the second-biggest fan of sex toys among British towns and cities, the results show.

Of the town's Quidco users, a total of 0.43 per cent purchased adult toys in March and April.

Only Worcester, in the West Midlands, amassed a greater figure (0.46 per cent) – prompting The Mirror to describe Worcester as the "raunchiest" town in the UK.

Close behind Worcester was Galashiels at 0.43 per cent.

Galashiels' place in the Top 10 sees it ahead of Sutton (0.39), Telford (0.33), Dorchester (0.30), Bournemouth (0.30), Salisbury (0.29), Stoke-on-Trent (0.28), Stevenage (0.27) and Bath (0.27).

The research was also published by current affairs magazine The Week.
