PEEBLES businesses have been targeted in overnight raids.
Thieves struck at a number of premises in South Parks Industrial Estate and at Glentress last night (May 20), according to police.
Now officers are calling on business owners in the area to strengthen their security measures.
Steps include testing alarm systems, ensuring doors are locked, reviewing CCTV footage regularly, and ensuring no cash or valuables are kept at the property overnight.
David MacCrimmon, seconded police officer to the Scottish Business Resilience Centre, said: "The coronavirus has had an unprecedented effect on our nation’s health and the way we interact societally.
"This is now making a significant impact on the retail sector and night-time economy.
"There is also a potential effect on the retail sector, with the risk of increased anti-social behaviour in our stores as some people look to stockpile what they see as essentials."
