BORDERS residents can tune into a live council meeting on the internet next week.

Scottish Borders Council (SBC) is hosting a meeting of its Local Review Body on Monday (May 25) using video-conferencing technology.

It will be the second meeting organised over Microsoft Teams – but the first open to the public.

Members of the public will not be allowed to ask questions, however, just as would be the case in physical meetings.

The council says the Local Review Body meeting on June 1 will also be available to the public.

The Local Review Body hears appeals against planning permission rejections.

SBC chief executive Tracey Logan said: “This is an important next step in the council being able to take decisions with absolute transparency while continuing to adhere to guidance on public meetings and social distancing.

“We will continue to review how these initial online meetings operate prior to confirmation of a calendar for future council meetings involving greater numbers of councillors, council officers and agenda items.”
