NASA has cancelled the launch of a rocket which would have been visible over skies in the Borders.

The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket had been scheduled to lift off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida at around 9.33pm (UK time) on May 27.

But space chiefs have pulled the plug on the launch due to bad weather.

NASA published a tweet at 9.21pm – minutes before the planned lift-off – to notify the expectant world of its decision.

The tweet reads: "We are not going to launch today.

"Due to the weather conditions, the launch is scrubbing.

"Our next opportunity will be Saturday, May 30 at 3:22pm ET.

"Live #LaunchAmerica coverage will begin at 11am ET."
