FAIRY godmothers do exist – at least here in the Borders they do.

The Scottish Fairy Godmothers is a Facebook page, set up by Borders residents, which offers comfort during lockdown – and gifts surprises to members.

Peebles member Zoe Falconer said: “The page is for people to have a chat with one another during these hard times.

"You can create an Amazon gift list and post this on the page and people gift you off this list.”

The group has now signed up nearly 400 members throughout the region.

Zoe said: “We decided to make a wish list for the children and we are making up gift bags to deliver throughout June.

"It is funded by members of the page and all children who are nominated will receive a gift.

"We wanted to do something nice for youngsters – they have accepted all the changes in their lives due to this terrible virus and have adapted really well.”

With the help of her friend Kathleen Aitchison, Zoe will be delivering gifts to more than 100 children in Peebles alone.

Describing how the group has helped since lockdown began, Zoe said: “You can talk to people and don’t feel so alone – and it’s always nice to get a wee gift through your door.”

The Scottish Fairy Godmothers was set up by Galashiels resident Jade Nisbet alongside Danielle Johnston from Melrose.
