BORDERERS will be able to take their rubbish to recycling centres from Monday (June 1).

But drivers will have to check their car number plates before making the journey.

As previously reported, access will be restricted depending on whether a vehicle has an odd or even registration number.

And the alternate day system will be enforced for at least the next two weeks, according to Scottish Borders Council (SBC).

If the last digit of your number plate is zero, two, four, six or eight, you will be able to visit on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, June 2; Thursday, June 4; Saturday, June 6; Monday, June 8; Wednesday, June 10; Friday, June 12 and Sunday, June 14.

But if the last digit of your number plate is one, three, five, seven or nine, you can gain entry on:

  • Monday, June 1; Wednesday, June 3; Friday, June 5; Sunday, June 7; Tuesday, June 9; Thursday, June 11 and Saturday, June 13.

A council spokesperson said: “Residents are strongly encouraged to visit SBC’s website, which will include live queueing times and full details of temporary restrictions at www.scotborders.gov.uk/recyclingcentres.”

Other temporary restrictions include:

  • Recycling centres will be open seven days a week, between 9am to 2pm
  • Only cars and small vans weighing up to two tonnes accepted, such as car-derived vans and small panel vans. No large vans, trailers or horse boxes will be accepted
  • Only garden waste and waste that residents normally put in their general waste bin will be accepted
  • Maximum of five bin bags per trip and only one visit allowed per day
  • If possible, one person per vehicle should travel to the site and only one should leave the vehicle to offload waste.
