TWEEDVALE Pipe Band is joining others across Scotland in commemorating 80 years since the surrender at St Valery-en-Caux.
The Second World War battle ended on June 12, 1940 when French and British forces surrendered to General Rommel’s 7th Panzer Division.
Today at 10am, pipers will perform Heroes of St Valery at three war memorials in Peeblesshire – Innerleithen, Walkerburn and Traquair.
Pipe Major Bruce Gillie said: “I received a call to ask if I could take part in this significant remembrance, to which I said yes, and would contact the local band members to get more signed up, which they have done.
“We must never forget the fallen, for what they went through to give us the freedom we have today.”
The British troops at St Valery were mostly in the 51st Highland Division.
Around 10,000 Scottish soldiers were captured and taken to prisoner of war camps.
