THUNDERSTORMS could break out in the Borders on Friday (June 26), according to the Met Office.

Forecasters have issued a 'yellow' weather warning starting on Friday and running until 6am on Saturday (June 27).

A Met Office spokesperson said: "There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."

Leading up to Friday, we have been told to expect warm and sunny weather, with temperatures tipped to reach 26 degrees in Galashiels tomorrow afternoon (Thursday, June 25).

The weather warning in the Borders comes into play from noon on Friday.

What the Met Office says about the thunderstorms warning

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
