SHOPPERS picked up long-awaited purchases in Galashiels today (June 29) as numerous businesses reopened.

Non-essential stores in Scotland are now inviting back customers, with the country embracing phase two of the 'route map' out of lockdown.

Tile Style owner Michelle Donaghy said: "I'm just pleased to see everybody."

Ms Donaghy, who has run her business for 15 years, added: "We've had 14 weeks off and it's just been a worry with cash flow and paying all the bills while I'm not here."

In Wilkies clothes shop, manager Maria Gray said she is happy to be back into a routine.

Like all of the other shop managers, Ms Gray has installed a plastic screen at the till of her Bank Street premises.

She also has markings on the floor to encourage shoppers to stay two metres apart from each other.

The fitting rooms are closed, she said - and at the moment they contain piles of out-of-season clothes, waiting to be removed.
