A £5.7 million housing project in Galashiels has moved a step forward, with the appointment of a contractor.

A total of 34 homes are due to start getting built at Huddersfield Street in July.

And now Eildon Housing Association has named Hart Builders as the company to lead the plans.

The affordable homes will be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, scheduled to be finished by the end of 2021.

Hart Builders’ managing director Andy Mallice said: “We’re delighted to continue our strong working relationship with Eildon as we begin working on this exciting new development in Galashiels to bring quality affordable homes to the area.”

“Hart Builders, as part of the Cruden Group, ensures that all developments support the local community, and on this development, we have been working with the local schools who designed and completed the Ivor Goodsite murals, and these will continue to be displayed on the site hoarding throughout the construction works.

“We will also be offering opportunities to local sub-contractors to ensure we maximise the benefits of the project for the local economy.”

Eildon Housing Association’s chief executive Nile Istephan said: “We’re looking forward to continuing our work with Hart Builders to deliver these new energy efficient affordable homes, which will make a real difference to people’s lives.

“The need to deliver inclusive growth in the Borders is still our priority during these unprecedented times.”
