A RACIST who shouted a tirade of abuse at a mum and was later snared with a knife between his buttocks was jailed on Friday for 22 months.

Steven McKenzie shouted the vile slurs in front of Humei Ahmed and her children in Cardonald in April this year.

The 31-year-old then told the mum of-five that he loved being racist.

McKenzie was reported to the police who recovered the small kitchen knife during a search.

McKenzie pleaded guilty on Friday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to acting in a racially aggravated manner and the unlawful possession of a knife.

The court heard McKenzie walked past Miss Ahmed’s garden and shouted an offensive remark in Punjabi.

Prosecutor Lauren Staunton said: “Miss Ahmed was then called a “p****” and asked the accused if he liked being racist.

“He replied ‘I love being racist’.”

Miss Ahmed called her husband who was later challenged to a fight by McKenzie.

He shouted: “You black p*** b******, don’t phone the police” before fleeing the scene.

A 999 call was made by and officers traced McKenzie nearby and taken into custody.

Miss Staunton said: “During his search, a small kitchen knife with a three-inch blade was recovered between the accused’s buttocks.”

Lawyer Michael O’Neill, defending, told the court McKenzie was on drugs and “heavily intoxicated” at the time.

Sheriff Martin Jones QC said: “This was a horrible thing for a family to witness in their own garden.”
