THE Borders Parkinson's Support Group has received a £500 donation from a Galashiels publican.

Members should have been celebrating the group's 20th anniversary, but lockdown restrictions scuppered their plans.

But, they were given a cash boost by Niki Fitzgerald of Niki's Bar.

Gary Hattie, Galashiels branch organiser, said: "It [the donation] was timed to perfection, as the support group here in the Borders is celebrating its 20th Birthday this year.

"Twenty years and it ain't half flown by.

"Over 20 years the groups been going now and Niki has been there supporting the group for 15 of those years, over that time Niki has been just like a member of the family!

"Always supporting the group year after year.

"Now, since Norman has taken over at the bar he has followed in his mother's footsteps supporting the group's Christmas party for the last two years, for which our members are most grateful."

At the beginning of the year, the Borders Parkinson's Support Group hosted a variety of meetings across the region, including a weekly Dancing with Parkinson's event.
