PARKING charges are returning to the Borders.
'Pay and display' was suspended across the region at the start of the coronavirus lockdown.
Now Scottish Borders Council has announced charging will be reintroduced from Monday, August 10.
However, for the first week (until August 17) parking attendants will aim to "offer advice to drivers regarding non-payment rather than immediately issuing a penalty".
Tracey Logan, the local authority's chief executive, said: “This phased approach will give the public some time to adjust to the return of pay and display, and allow permit holders to receive their renewals.”
To minimise use of cash payments at ticket machines, the public are being encourage to use the RingGo app which allows drivers to use their mobile phone to pay via debit or credit card.
