A CELEBRITY chef visited the Borders General Hospital (BGH) this week to cook up some tasty meals.

TV favourite Tony Singh has appeared on shows including Saturday Kitchen, Ready Steady Cook and The Great British Menu.

But this week Mr Singh, from Edinburgh, joined the Melrose hospital’s kitchen staff to make chicken and spinach masala and vegetable dhal curry.

The celebrity chef said: "I loved my time in the kitchen with the catering team at the Borders General Hospital.

"Any way in which I can help all of the frontline heroes and the heroes behind the scenes in the NHS, I will.

As well as his impressive cooking skills, Mr Singh brought his "cheeky" personality to the BGH kitchen.

The hospital’s catering manager Muriel Thomson said: "We were delighted to welcome Tony to the catering department at the BGH – there was a real buzz amongst the team."

Mr Singh, from Leith, is a consultant chef at the Apex, in Edinburgh's Haymarket.

Ms Thomson added: "It was a privilege for our staff to work alongside him for the day and collaboratively produce a special themed menu which was on sale for our NHS Borders colleagues."

Mr Singh is a family friend of an NHS Borders employee.
