A PORTION of the A7 is set to close for seven days.

Resurfacing works will take place along the road north of Galashiels from Monday, September 28 until Tuesday, October 6 from 9am to 5pm.

However, traffic will be able to use the road on the weekend of October 3-4.

Traffic lights were put in place on Wednesday so preparatory work can be carried out until Friday (September 25).

Border Telegraph:

Gordon Edgar, the council's executive member for infrastructure, travel and transport, said: “Any drivers or cyclists who use the A7 regularly will welcome these resurfacing works which will greatly improve this section of the road."

Traffic in both directions will be diverted using the B6458 Tynehead Road which connects the A7 at Heriot with the A68 at Fala.

Drivers are also asked to avoid the B6362 Lauder Road at Stow for the "benefit of local residents".

School transport will be able to pass through the works and the Borders Buses X95 will be diverted via the B710 at Clovenfords/Bowland.

Mr Edgar added: "Thank you all local communities and road users in advance for their patience and understanding with these works.”
