A MAN who admitted drug-dealing in the Borders has been jailed for 20 months at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Anthony Tait, 40, of Eyemouth, pleaded guilty to having heroin worth £6,640 at his home in the town’s Bennison Square between May 1 and May 27.

He pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug.

Procurator fiscal Fraser Matheson said police obtained a search warrant for the property, with quantities of cash and diamorphine discovered.

Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said his client was "intimidated into carrying out the enterprise”.

He had been held in custody in connection with the matter since May 28.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said a custodial sentence was inevitable but accepted there had been an element of intimidation directed towards Tait.

But he told him: "You are the author of your own misfortune by becoming involved in the drugs world."

The sheriff pointed out Tait had two previous drug supply convictions.

He would have sentenced him to 30 months in prison but reduced the sentence to 20 months due to the guilty plea.

The sentence was back-dated to May 28.

The Crown has moved for forfeiture of £3,820 of cash found in the property and a hearing will take place on November 9.
