THE developers of Borders Gateway, a retail park due to be built in Tweedbank, have said they are hopeful that work can continue on the site shortly.
Construction of the retail park, which would see a Premier Inn, Costa Coffee drive-thru and BP petrol garage built next to the Melrose roundabout, had to be halted due to the impact of coronavirus.
Duncan Hamilton, managing director of New Land Assets, the company responsible for the development, provided an update on the situation.
“Following a very challenging summer for everyone, we are very keen to get back to work on the site,” said Mr Hamilton.
“We are of course monitoring the changing situation relating to COVID-19 very closely to ensure that we comply with the latest Scottish Government advice and guidance and hope to be back to work shortly.”
The multimillion-pound project, which includes a 71-bed Premier Inn, promises to bring jobs to the area – although a completion date has yet to be announced.
