AN EIGHT-FOOT crocheted tribute will go on display in Galashiels once again

In 2018, members of a craft group at the Focus Centre created 639 poppies – to pay tribute to every Galalean who lost their life during the First World War.

As part of this year's remembrance commemorations in November, the cross will be erected in the town centre.

Judith Cleghorn, chairwoman of Galashiels Community Council, told last Wednesday's meeting: "In 2018 there was a huge response in the town to remember those who lost their lives in during the two world wars – particularly 1918.

"The group at the Focus Centre crocheted poppies and the cross went on display in the foyer.

"Unfortunately we cannot do this this year as the Focus Centre is closed.

"But we have been able to get a shop in the town so we are able to put the cross up.

"We hope it will go up on November 1 for at least two weeks."
