A BORDERS motorist who admitted driving while more than six times the legal alcohol limit has avoided a prison sentence at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
David Clarke - who was banned from the road for three years - was told by Sheriff Peter McCormack that he had reached the threshold of custody.
But the 51-year-old was given an alternative to custody by being placed on a night-time curfew at his Greenlaw home between the hours of 8pm and 6am for the next 96 days.
Clarke pleaded guilty to driving with a breath/alcohol count of 140 microgrammes - the legal limit being 22 - in the Berwickshire village on the evening of June 27.
The court was told he had a previous conviction for drink-driving but was now abstinent.
