THE A7 will soon be closed overnight for two weeks, with resurfacing works worth £612,000 being carried out.

On Monday (November 9), the road between Kingsknowes roundabout and Selkirk will be closed from 8pm until 6am with diversions via the A699, A68 and A6091.

On November 10, from 8pm to 6am, the route between Selkirk and Hawick will be closed with diversions using the A698, A68 and A699.

And between November 11 and 23 (excluding weekends), the A7 will close between Hawick and Canonbie from 8pm to 6am with diversions via the B7201, B6357 and A6088.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Representative, said: “These overnight resurfacing projects will improve the condition of the road surface across six sections of the A7, benefitting road users for years to come.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience.

“We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

The overnight works will see almost 4.15km of carriageway resurfaced, according to BEAR.

A spokesperson said: “Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times and local access for residents living within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.”
