THIS year Acts of Remembrance were cancelled and people were asked to stay in their homes to honour the fallen because of coronavirus.

However, in the Borders the stay-at-home order did not stop people from remembering those who had sacrificed their lives for us in World Ward One, World War Two and subsequent conflicts.

As part of the Poppyscotland 'Light Up Red' campaign, Old Parish and St Paul's church in Galashiels was covered in a red glow alongside other Borders landmarks including Sir Walter Scott's courthouse in Selkirk.

Borderers also broke out their paint and craft supplies, creating window displays, knitted poppies and painted pebbles with poppies and Remembrance themes.

Before the weekend, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon asked the nation to pay their respects from their doorsteps with a two-minute silence.

In Level 2 (which is in place in the Borders) events such as Remembrance are not permitted, and would only be allowed inside places of worship – following existing restrictions.
