A DAY of leg waxing has helped a Galashiels business raise more than £600 for Movember.

The Borders Beauty Studio, Market Street, invited five men into the salon for a sponsored leg waxing on Sunday (November 15) for all the Borders to see.

Every wince, squirm and swear word could be seen via a Facebook live stream, and studio owner Alana Grant said the gents were left with "lovely, shiny, smooth legs at the end".

"It was so good," she said. "I would say the boys enjoyed but there were a few winces."

Miss Grant explained that she wanted to get involved with Movember this year as she feels mental health awareness is very important this year.

"Mental health is going to have a bigger effect this year and more support is needed," she added. "If we can raise money then we can help a bit."

Thanks to the fundraiser, £675 was raised for the charity, with online donations remaining open until the end of the month.

As well as sharing the waxing over live stream, three of the five beds were placed in the studio's large reception area, allowing passersby to enjoy the show.

Miss Grant said: "Passersby had a giggle as the boys got waxed.

"Some told us it was good Sunday entertainment as well as raising money for a good cause."

And the therapists had an extra laugh on Sunday thanks to their volunteers' clothing choices.

Alana said: "Some of the boys wore shorts and we were only doing half a leg – so just above the knee.

"It was so funny, you could see where the tops of their legs were still hairy.

"Some of them asked if any of our other customers make as much noise as them, we told them that some clients fall asleep during their treatments – they were shocked.

"It was such a contrast to out normal clients."

"To be honest I think some of the noise was for dramatic effect," she joked, "but they all did really well."
