A BORDERS man who smashed the window of a local barber's shop causing £1,850 worth of damage has been ordered to pay compensation.

Daniel Tereszczyn, 21, of Dickson Street, Hawick, pleaded guilty to wilfully or recklessly damaging the window of the town’s Hunter's Hair in High Street on the night of December 21.

Depute fiscal Fiona Hamilton said the accused had been protecting someone in a bar and had been kicked out and took his frustration out on the window.

She said the shop owner said the cost of the damage to the window was £1,850 to replace of which he would have to pay the £375 insurance excess.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court was told that Tereszczyn's income was only £250 a month of Universal Credit.

Taking that into account Sheriff Peter Paterson ordered him to pay £120 in compensation to the shop owner.
