THE coronavirus infection rate in the Borders has more than doubled within a fortnight, according to new figures.
The latest data published by Public Health Scotland (PHS) today (December 14) shows that, between December 5 and December 11, the region recorded a rate of 75.3 new cases per 100,000 of the population.
This marks a rise from the rate between November 25 and December 1, which was 32.9.
Among the 30 Borders neighbourhoods shown on the PHS interactive map, the highest rates are in ‘Cheviot East’ and ‘Coldstream and Area’ – both have a rate of 200-399 per 100,000.

Hawick Central, Peebles South, and Tweeddale West Area all recorded a rate of 50-99 per 100,000.
Meanwhile, the remaining 17 areas recorded zero to two cases within the seven-day period, and their case rates were “suppressed” to protect patient confidentiality.
