AFTER weeks of voting, we can now reveal who has won the 2020 edition of the Bonnie Babies competition run by the Border Telegraph and the Peeblesshire News.

The top tot who has scooped the prize of £750 and the coveted title of Bonnie Baby is Alfie Darling from Tweedbank.

Five-month-old Alfie was entered into this year’s competition by mum Brittany Barnes, and dad Alastair Darling.

Brittany, 25, said: “I’m so happy, I’m over the moon for him.”

Alfie is Brittany and Alastair’s first child and the couple said it was a “no-brainer” to enter him into the competition.

“I thought it would be a bit of fun,” Brittany said.

“We and everyone think he is absolutely gorgeous, so it was a no-brainer to enter him.”

The winner of this year’s Bonnie Babies competition takes home a £750 cash prize, second place wins £200, and third place £50.

When asked what they plan to do with the money, Brittany, who works as a hairdresser and care worker, said: “We always said that if he [Alfie] won, it was his money. It will go into his savings account.”

Looking to Christmas, Brittany said she is excited to celebrate with her growing family.

“During lockdown, Alfie’s grandparents weren’t allowed to visit and my friends haven’t met him,” she said.

“We’ll have Christmas together in the morning then we’ll see both our parents for a wee while in the afternoon which is exciting because Alfie is both of their first grandchild.”

She added: “This will be our first Christmas in our new home, and first as a family so I’m really looking forward to it.”
