A BORDERS man has been placed on supervision for 18 months after clashing in the street with someone he had been ordered by a court to stay away from.

Stuart Moffett, 29, of Noble Place, Hawick, pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to charges of threatening or abusive behaviour and breaching a court order.

Procurator fiscal Fraser Matheson said that on August 23 at around 1pm in the Gala Water Retail Park, Galashiels, Moffett walked past a man he was banned from contacting who was in the company of his mother.

He said that Moffett told the man he was going to kill him.

Mr Matheson said the man replied he was with his mum and to stop. Eventually the mum had to place herself in between the pair to stop the dispute escalating.

Moffett was given a Community Payback Order involving 18 months' supervision with a condition to attend a drug treatment programme.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to the mother of the man he confronted.
