A BORDERS tool manufacturer has been fined £100,000 after an employee was seriously injured while operating a drill.
Jedburgh firm L.S.Starrett pleaded guilty at the town’s sheriff court to breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 at the company’s Oxnam Road factory on October 2, 2018.
Worker Brian Colvine was exposed to injury by wearing gloves and operating a drill.
He caught the glove in the drill causing his hand to be drawn into it all to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment.
The company admitted a charge of failing to ensure the health and safety of its employees by failing to identify and assess the risk of wearing gloves while operating a radial arm drill.
