AN EYE-CATCHING guest checked into a popular Borders hotel for Christmas – but don’t panic, he hasn’t broken any COVID travel rules.
The Tontine Hotel, in Peebles, might be quiet with residential guests this festive period, but one came trotting into the reception in a bit of a rut and needed a place to rest his head.
Hotel staff confirmed that a Mr Tweedie was indeed a guest of theirs and had an exclusive room at the premises.
Of course their mystery guest is in fact a white artificial stag, which caused much wonderment when it appeared on an island in the River Tweed during the summer.
Tweedie withstood the rising fast-flowing river before vanishing for several weeks, only to re-appear in all his glory on the entrance canopy of the High Street hotel.
Tontine co-owner Kate Innes said customers and staff alike "love" Tweedie, adding: "The team are all delighted to have [him] looking over us and the comings and goings of Peebles."
Tweedie was created by Peebles stalwart John Falla, who said the stag's move might have been down to the rutting season.
