A UNIVERSITY has vowed to make adjustments to a wall on its campus following the death of a Borders teenager.

Campbell Hunter, 18, from Peebles, died in Glasgow Royal Infirmary after being found injured near a Strathclyde University building in the city’s Rottenrow on December 9.

This week, social media users called for work to be carried out on a wall – with one labelling it an “obvious hazard”.

In a message to the university, John Kearns wrote: “The wall is about three-feet high [with a] six-metre drop [on the other side] and is completely hidden by surrounding bushes.

“Students are always sat here despite having onsite security and yet there is still no signage/railings to stop people.

“Do the right thing, apologise and fix this before it happens again.”

The Peeblesshire News contacted Strathclyde University for comment.

Responding, a spokesperson said work was due to start to “modify” the wall.

“The university community is deeply saddened by the death of one of our students,” said the spokesperson.

“Campbell was well-known and liked, and his tutors describe him as a brilliant, engaged, and enthusiastic student.

“He had already made an excellent start to his studies, and will be missed enormously.

“Since the tragedy, our student support services have been in touch with Campbell’s family and friends, and support remains available to anyone who has been affected.

“The area has been assessed and work will begin shortly to modify the wall to prevent anyone from sitting on it.”
