THE Borders has recorded 43 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The data was released by the Scottish Government at 2pm today (Tuesday, January 5).

In the Borders there are currently 37 people in hospital with confirmed or suspected coronavirus. The figure is three more than on December 31.

On January 3 and 4, there were 39 people in hospital in the Borders with the virus.

The Scottish Government took a break from reporting local coronavirus figures between January 1 and 4 for the New Year holiday.

Since March 2020, the Borders has had 1,964 cases. The national total is 139,027.

By December 31, the Borders had recorded 1,586 cases of COVID-19. Since then, a further 378 cases have been registered.
